Registration Information
NJ Science Olympiad Registration Procedures
Adopted September 12, 2026
To increase the efficiency of the registration process and ensure maximum fairness to all participating teams given the limitations of our tournament capacity, the Steering Committee of the NJ Science Olympiad ("NJSO") has adopted the following registrations procedures for the 2027 tournament season. Please CAREFULLY read the procedures below, which supersede all past registration procedures. If you have any questions, please contact registration@njscienceolympiad.org.
Procedures have been simplified for 2027.
Preferred Payment Methods
Processing payments is one of the most labor-intensive parts of our "back office" processes. We are asking that, if possible, you adjust your method of payment to help reduce our administrative workload, allowing us to spend more time on organizing the best possible events.
Most preferred form of payment: Paper or Electronic Check - Checks take the smallest amount of time for us to process and involve no additional fees for our organization.
Second preferred form of payment: Credit Card - We accept payment via credit card. This method takes a bit more labor than checks, but most importantly, involves fees that we pay to process the credit card payment. If you can't pay by check, this method is preferred.
Least preferred form of payment: Purchase Order - We understand that at some schools and districts, purchase orders are the only option, and we will continue to accept them, but it is our least preferred method of payment. Purchase orders require a lot of labor and postage to process. If possible, please e-mail the purchase order to us and avoid the mail.
- The registration period for the 2027 NJSO tournament season begins Wednesday September 23, 2026, at 6:00 PM EDT and ends Friday November 6, 2026, at 6:00 PM EST
- New for 2027: The maximum capacity at any regional tournament is 20 Division B teams and 30 Division C teams. It is expected that Division B (Middle School) at NJIT and Division C (high school) at NJIT and Union College of Union County NJ will sell out. Please plan accordingly. We cannot exceed these capacity limits.
- New for 2027: Regional tournament placement is on a first come first serve basis. Your school will be assigned to a regional tournament once we have processed your online registration.
Schools for whom travel to the Camden County College Regional is acceptable are requested to register for that tournament, if possible.
- The 2027 registration fee is $300.00 per team. If a school has a team in each division, the fee is $600.00 total. A maximum of one team, per school, per division, may register.
- The registration process has two steps: (1) online registration, and (2) guarantee of payment. Teams which fail to complete BOTH steps of the registration process, by December 18, 2026, will be ineligible to compete in any 2027 NJSO tournaments.
- Step 1: Online Registration:
- To register, each head coach must go to the NJSO website and follow the links to the online registration form. The registration form will require the coach to acknowledge having read and understood these registration procedures as a prerequisite for submitting the registration.
- Registrations are processed in the order received.
- Be prepared to provide the following information when registering
- School name, district, mailing address, and phone number
- Team Division and preferred regional tournament
- Head Coach Name, E-mail and Cell phone number
- Name, E-mail, and Cell phone number for up to three assistant coaches
- Method of guarantee of payment to be used and approximate date it is expected to be received by NJSO
- If your team will be attending any Science Olympiad Invitationals (optional tournaments not operated by New Jersey Science Olympiad)
- A confirmation e-mail will be sent to the head coach to confirm registration along with payment details.
- Step 2: Guarantee of Payment
- Once the online registration form has been submitted, it is the responsibility of the team's head coach to ensure that payment or guarantee of payment is received by NJSO by the December 18, 2026, deadline. If you cannot meet this deadline, please contact registration@njscienceolympiad.org.
- New for 2027: Purchase orders delivered by e-mail can be sent to registration@njscienceolympiad.org. E-mailing a purchase order is preferred over sending it via US Mail.

All payments must be made payable to New Jersey Science Olympiad
- NJSO accepts the following as guarantee of payment: credit card, check (school or personal), money order, purchase order (via e-mail or US Mail), or other electronic payment systems
- Some schools require a NJ Business Registration Certificate and/or a W-9 form filled out by NJSO. NJSO is providing both of those forms here:

- NJSO will send weekly e-mail reminders to all head coaches of teams for which guarantee of payment has not been received starting on Monday, November 2, 2026.
- Refunds will not be issued for any reason.
- A returned check will result in a removal of registration for this year and all costs incurred by New Jersey Science Olympiad, including bank fees and other costs, must be paid by the school by May 1, 2027 if the school wishes to register for NJSO in a subsequent season.
- Registration status of all teams will be posted to the Registration Status section of this web site.
- For schools attending Science Olympiad Invitational Tournaments Only: We are required to collect an additional $75 National Science Olympiad registration fee for schools who will be attending any specific Invitational Tournament with more than one team of students. This fee is the National Science Olympiad membership fee for your additional team(s) and is not retained by New Jersey Science Olympiad.
